12th December 2018
In our class today most of the students were on a field trip so we decided to sing you a song:

The song that we are singing is called 'IMAGINE' by John Lenon (here is a link to the youtube of the song and the neautiful lyrics: IMAGINE / IMAGINE LYRICS) and as you see we are not professional but it was a good way to spend an English lesson
6th December 2018: This week
we are celebrating the festival of Hanukkah

The Story of Hanukkah

The
Hanukkah holiday is an old one. It honors the struggle of ancient Jews to restore the Temple of Jerusalem.

Long
ago, Judea was ruled by the Syrian king Antiochus, who said that Jews should give up worshipping Yahweh and worship the Greek gods instead.
The Jews didn't like this. They refused to abandon Yahweh. They decided to do something about it.
A man named Judah Maccabee got a group of people together to fight back. These people got more people to join, and they soon had an army.
They fought back. For three years, the Jews battled the Syrians for control of Judea. Finally, the Jews won.
They cleaned the Temple of Jerusalem, removing all Greek symbols and restoring the Jewish symbols. The job was finished on the 25th day of the month of Kislev. This is the day Hanukkah is celebrated. The day varies in the Western calendar.
To help celebrate, Judah and his followers lit an oil lamp. The supply of oil was very low, but this lamp stayed lit for eight days.
To honor this extraordinary event, Jews today celebrate the Eight Days of Hanukkah and call it the "Festival of Lights." They light a special eight-candle device called a menorah.
People today give each other gifts, make special foods, have special dinners, and remember their ancestors, who fought to take their temple back.

    Hi, it's Shai.
I (as you probably guessed) live in Haifa with my family (my parents and two sisters) I love it here! It's not to big city so I know almost every corner here but it's not enough to have everything big cities have: cinemas, shoping mall's and more. In my free time I practice karate, write stories and spend time with my friends. I love it very much and I'd like to hear what you do in your free time and what do you enjoy doing

My name is Nimrod (I am a boy, in case you wondered). I also live in Haifa, and I think it's quite a nice place, although it obviously has it's downsides. I learn in the music major in our school. I love music and it's a big part of my life. I play the guitar, the trumpet and the bass, and I love all sorts of musical genres: metal, rock, jazz, rap, country and more. I also love books and TV: Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Name Of The wind and so on... I look forward for a message from you!

    1. Hi Mako it's shai. I'm verry glad to hear that you are impressed with me writnig. I'm actually working on a new story right now. It's about a human who grows up on an alien planet where everyone is weaker than humans in every phisical way, so he is considered to have super powers, and he becomes a super hero, and there is a huge story involving, him, his brother and a lot of complicated and cool stuff. it's actually going to be my longest stories, and it's one of my favorite ideas (I'll tell you more about it if you want). if you to know another thing, about
Israel, Haifa, me, or anything like that I'll be glad to tell you. I'd like to hear more about you also. you wrote something about drawing beutifull places in Kanazawa, do you drow those places? and you said that you talk alot about sports, what is your favorite ones? (mine is martial arts and soccer, although I don't have a lot of time to watch them lately, but I still play alot of soccer with my friends and train in karate, which is something)

    2. Hello Mako! It's Daniel.
Thank you for your kind reply! I'm happy to see you're passionate about art, it's a great thing to do in your free time. And I totally agree with you, table tennis is great! I like playing it at school. As for sports, I like to go for runs and do power lifting to stay healthy. If you don't mind,i'd like to ask another question: What are some of the best places to visit in Kanazawa? Once again thank you for your kind reply!

    3. Hello again Mako, it's Nimrod. I read your reply and it made ne very glad. Thank you so much for the compliments but although I play all those instruments, I never managed to play the piano properly, so I'd have to give some compliments to you about this subject as well . Music is a big part of my life, so I can recommend you some rock music for you to listen (if you'll like it): for example, Guns N' Roses are pretty good, and also Slash. I like Motörhead too, and Opeth. If you will like it, you can always ask me for more. What about you? I would love to hear about your life, I'm curious!

Hi,Shai.I'm glad to hear your story!I like the story of the set. What a good imagination!I want to hear more,if you're ok.
I can't draw some place of Kanazawa.Enjoy to imagine! My favorite place is the park where
we can look out over the hole of kanazawa.Open sky and nature are
surrounded us.A lot of kind of flowers bloom there. Also, night
view is so beautiful. Why don't you draw this place!!

Hi,Daniel.I don't want to brag about it,but when I draw some view, almost my friends can't understand what I draw.If you have some knack of drawing view, tell me!!And,I agree with you.Sports is good for our health also for using brain!
I recommend a big garden. It's called 'Kenroku garden'.We can enjoy every seasons,so it's the best place to visit.Anytime is OK!In Israel, are there any good place like 'Kenroku garden'?

Hi,Nimrod.Thank you to recommend some music for me.I listened almost music that you recommend in my free time.I've never listened such music,I really enjoyed!Who is your favorite singer??I will research!Smile is a big part of my life,so if I have fun now, that will be enough! At my school P.E class,I practice dance.I like this music,so I want you to listen. It is a Korean music. The singer is fromis-9 and the title is'Pinokio'.Enjoy to listen!

    5. Hi,three of you!I'm Mako.
Today,I want you to tell about three things.
First,I listened the song which 10th grader was singing.Your voice is good!I want your singing mind.Through this,I could imagine lots of things.I realized that it is important for us to imagine.
Second,I saw the Hannukah's video.I think the music is wonder rhythm. And I learned a little.I was surpriseed you don't have a Christmas. You celebrate Hannukah instead of it.I'm interested in Hannukiya.
Every nine, people light on the candle for eight days.I have questions. Why do people celebrate for eight days? And do you do same things?
Third,I read the story a bus driver who wanted to be a Got.I thought this story setting is interesting.I enjoy reading.I think Eddie is so poor.Eddie promised to meet Happines, but she didn't come.If I were Happines I tell to Eddie I have a boy friend. And they will find how to deal each other.Have you ever experienced like Eddie?I want to hear your opinions.

    6. Hello Mako!
I deeply apologize for the late reply, how have you been? To answer your question:We celebrate Hanukkah for 8 days because when our Temple was purified. the candles of the menorah miraculously burned for eight days, even though there was only enough sacred oil for one day's lighting. And yes we do the same thing! Do you have any Holidays you'd like to tell me about?
And about "The Bus Driver Who Wanted to be God". I totally agree with you. Even though I did not have an experience like Eddie, I do agree with your statement.
      Looking forward to your reply,
      Daniel Tommer.

Oh, both of you like to take photos! That's very cool! Nowadays, I often take pictures to put on the Instagram, but I can't take them beautifully. I want to know some knacks!

To Adi, I like drawing, too! Especially, I like to draw scenery. When I was a junior high school student, I made a poster portrays the views of the four seasons of Kanazawa. What do you usually draw? Do you like drawing scenery the best or the other? Please tell me!

To Norm, you can surf! That's amazing! Actually, I've never been to the sea though Kanazawa is not too far from the sea, so I adore very much to try some marine sports. When did you start it? Do you enjoy other sports too? I want you to tell me more about surfing!

My hobby is watching comedies and movies. These days, I often watch Disney mobies under the influence of my friends. I like Disney Princesses and I love Rapunzel among them. Do you know her? Of course she is cute, moreover, she is courageous and positive! I respect her. I also like Japanese anime. Are the Japanese anime famous in Israel? If so, which one do you know? I'm very interested in it!

Kanazawa is a very beautiful historical city. It'll be more fantastic in the snowing season soon, but Kanazawa is serious with lots of snow every year. How about your country? How is the current season?

    1. Hi,Carmon and Keren, I will tell you about three things.
First, I read the story of Hanukka. I have some questions. In eight days of Hanukka, Who give the gifts? and what special foods do you eat? Please tell me more details.
Second, I wrote the impression of reading The Story About a Bus Driver Who Wanted to Be God. I feel the bus driver will be a nice person.Of course, being on time is important. But sometimes, opening the door for people who are late makes feeling better. I always go to school by bus, and I have seen the same situation many times. Almost bus driver open the door, but the other driver don't open. When I see bus driver ignore people who say "Please put me on!", I feel bad. So, in this story, I was pleased that the driver finally waited him.
And I feel the man who want to take the bus is so poor. I think the woman who turns him down should not make appointment of date with him. But seen from different angle, she is too kind to refuse him at first. What do you think?
Finally, I saw the video you sang. It seemed so fun! Before watching your video, I have never heard the song of John Lenon.Do you like him? And if you have favorite song, please tell me. Thank you for us to be seen your video.
      Your friend, Airi.

  22. Hi,Neta, Noga and Sasha!
    I’m Shinnosuke. I’m 17years old.I’ve played badminton for about 2 years. I’m not a good player though.
As for my hobby, I love reading comic books and wathing anime based on them. I especially like “JOJO’s bizarre adventure”.The main character’s saying and the petty way of fight are really enjoyable. Also, the pictures are all full of fine touches.
What about you? What’s your hobby?
It’s just an aside, but are manga and anime from Japan famous in Israel? If so, which work do you know or do you like the best? I’m looking forward to your reply!

    Your friend, Shinnosuke

    1. Hi, it's Mari. I'm writing this for Rihito.
To see Rihito's comments, please take a look at the Group 10 Thread on the top of this page.
Perhaps you can see on a computer, not a smartphone.
Rihito has left his message there a while ago, and has been waiting to hear back from you.
      :)
